The 7 Universal Laws Explained
The Principles that Rule Everything and Everyone
To live better lives we need to understand the 7 Universal Laws that rule everything.
Everybody and everything in the Universe is regulated by 7 Universal Laws or Principles.
They are the Mentalism Laws, Correspondence, Vibration, Polarity, Rhythm, Cause and Effect, and Gender, to mention a few.
These Laws ensure that the Universe is in perfect balance and order.
These seven Hermetic Laws of the Universe run across all ancient mystical, esoteric, and hidden teachings stretching back over 5,000 years, from Ancient Egypt to Ancient Greece.
You will experience transformation in every area of your life beyond what you have ever dared to think once you understand, apply, and align yourself with the 7 Universal Laws.
The governing Laws do not intend to punish or reward you in any way.
They are impersonal, functioning on unconscious lines without your knowledge or consent.
The Universe’s Irreversible and Mutable Laws
The first three Universal Laws are the Higher Immutable Laws, which means they are Absolute and Eternal. They cannot be altered or transcended in any way.
They have always existed and will continue to exist in the future.
The Lower Mutable Laws are the remaining four of the 7 Universal Laws, which are transitory and can be transcended or worked with to create a perfect inner and outward world.
This isn’t to imply you shouldn’t pay attention to the four Mutable Laws or try to ignore them; even if you do, they will still regulate your life.
Our goal is to comprehend each of the 7 Universal Laws and then learn to transcend or master the Lower Laws by using what we’ve learned about the Higher Laws.
Law #1: The Law of Mentalism (Immutable)
The first of the 7 Universal Laws is the Law of Mentalism which states that “All is Mind — All is Mental.”
This suggests that the basic substance of the entire Universe is mind or awareness, and that this consciousness is the Mind of The Absolute — Universal Mind.
Because it is an immutable law, nothing can or will ever change it, and it applies to all planes — physical, mental, and spiritual.
‘All is Mind,’ however, does not imply that everything in the Mental Plane is a part of it.
The Mental Plane, on the other hand, is the plane of Mind linked with mental processes like as thinking, imagination, and your overall mental state.
So the Absolute, of which your God Self is a Divine Spark, creates and governs all energy and matter, visible and invisible, at all levels of existence.
Your mind and the entire Universal Mind are one and the same.
And your world is nothing more than a projection of your consciousness, a manifestation of your thinking.
Because everything is mind, this means you don’t have a mind; you are mind. This is what Mind Power is all about.
Law #2: The Law of Correspondence (Immutable)
The Law of Correspondence, commonly known as the Law of Analogy, is the second of the 7 Universal Laws.
“As Above So Below, As Below So Above,” “As Within So Without, As Without So Within,” says this Law.
This indicates that the Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Planes are in “harmony, agreement, and communication.”
Simply put, there is no division because everything is Mind, including you.
The sole variation, according to the third of the Universal Laws, is the rate of vibration.
From the smallest particle to the greatest star, from the visible Physical Plane to the invisible Spiritual Plane, the same pattern appears on all realms of existence.
Using the Law of Correspondence
The Law of Correspondence’s practical application is that it allows you to logically comprehend the nature of things you don’t understand by studying the nature of things you do understand and then discovering the analogy.
For example, you can accurately comprehend how your mind produces your reality by knowing the creative component of Universal Mind.
By examining your inner mental world, you can gain insight into the state of your outward physical world.
In the same way, gazing at your exterior physical world might disclose your inner mental world.
“Circumstances do not form a man, they reveal him,” remarked New Thought author James Allen, aptly capturing this Law.
This indicates that your outer world conditions expose your inner world, and that changing your circumstances requires changing your thoughts, which includes how you feel, what you assume, and what you believe, among other things.
Furthermore, the inscription “Know thyself and thou shalt know all the mysteries of the gods and the Universe” on the Ancient Greek Temple of Apollo at Delphi alluded to this great Law of Correspondence.
Law #3: The Law of Vibration (Immutable)
The Law of Vibration is the third of the 7 Universal Laws, and it teaches us that “”Nothing Stops — Everything Moves — Everything Vibrates”, “Nothing Stops — Everything Moves — Everything Vibrates”, “
Universe as a Whole Is But a Vibration “..
This is supported by current science, which claims that everything, including you, is made up of pure energy vibrating at different frequencies.
All manifestations of consciousness or mind, whether matter, ideas, emotions, things, or situation, have the same rate of vibration.
The less dense or subtle (less tangible) anything is, the higher the rate of vibration.
So the more thick or less subtle (more tangible) anything is, the lower its rate of vibration.
Everything you feel with your five physical senses is transmitted to your brain via vibrations on the Physical Plane.
And everything in the 3D world is a vibration; the way your brain interprets those vibrations causes you to see them as solid.
Thought Vibrations
When you think on the Mental Plane, you emit thought-waves, and each thought-wave has its own frequency, which is invisible to your physical senses.
What you consistently think, feel, envision, believe, and so on determines the overall frequency of your mental nature, which in turn affects the nature of your projected 3D experience.
Because you have the ability to choose your ideas, you may enhance the rate of vibration of your mental frequency by thinking more positive, higher-frequency thoughts.
The Law of Vibration Underpins the Law of Attraction
The Law of Attraction is founded on the principle “like energy attracts similar energy,” which is based on the Law of Vibration.
By actively choosing what you focus on, what you envision, what you assume, and how you emotionally react to external world conditions, you may learn to manipulate your mental vibrations at will.
Similarly, you may reprogram your subconscious mind and shift your underlying beliefs.
True thought power is built on this foundation.
The Law of Vibration and the Power of Directive
We also know that larger rates of vibration have directional power over lower rates of vibration, according to the Law of Vibration.
This means that the more your directional authority over the denser degrees of consciousness below it, such as your Mental Plane and the 3D Physical Plane, the higher your degree of consciousness towards your Higher Self.
This explains why, because the former has directing authority over the latter, the ‘higher’ you go in degree of consciousness on the inside, the greater your ability to effortlessly manifest your goals on the outside.
Law #4: The Law of Polarity (Mutable)
The Law of Polarity is the fourth of the 7 Universal Laws, which states that “Everything is Dual, Everything has Poles,” “Everything has its Pair of Opposites,” and “Opposites are Identical in Nature, but Different in Degree.”
It is the first of the Mutable or Transcendent Universal Laws, and it states that everything has two sides.
Things that appear to be diametrically opposed or incompatible are only two extremes of the same entity.
Heat and cold, for example, appear to be diametrically opposed, yet they are actually different degrees of the same substance called temperature.
All opposites are the same way.
Love and hate, peace and war, positive and negative, good and evil, yes and no, light and darkness, energy and matter are all just different expressions of the same thing.
By rising above your emotions and actively choosing to focus on higher feelings, you can transmute your emotions along the same path as any pair of opposites, such as from hate to love, fear to courage, and so on.
This raises the general vibration of your Mental Plane, and thus your 3D experience as a result.
The Art of Polarization and Mental Transmutation is referred to in Hermetic Teachings.
Overcoming the Law of Polarity
This Principle of Duality may appear to be very real in your life, yet it only applies to the Physical and Mental Planes, not the Spiritual Plane, where all is One.
“God is Above the Opposites,” states the Bhagavad-Gita.
You will master the Law of Polarity over time by always putting the All-Powerful, All-Knowing Great Spirit or Absolute, of which your True Self is a Divine Spark, behind everything you say and do.
And by attempting to focus on the positive even when things do not appear to be going your way, while also avoiding the extremes.
Furthermore, by refusing to categorize anything as “good” or “evil,” whether it is a desire, person, concept, thing, or circumstance, you avoid becoming hooked to either side.
When you aren’t connected to either side of the polarities, you can perceive them for what they are: various manifestations of the same thing, and you can begin to transcend the Law of Polarity.
Law #5: The Law of Rhythm (Mutable)
The Law of Rhythm is the fifth of the 7 Universal Laws, which states that:
— “Everything Flows, Out and In,”
— “The Pendulum Swing Manifests in Everything,”
— “All Things Rise and Fall,”
— “The Measure of the Swing to the Left is the Measure of the Swing to the Right,” and
— “Rhythm compensates.”
The Law of Rhythm is the second of the mutable or transcendable Laws of the Universe.
It states that all things, visible or unseen, swing between opposites due to the pendulum of the Law of Rhythm.
The waves of the ocean, the rise and fall of empires, business cycles, the swing of your thinking from positive to negative, and your own accomplishments and failures all demonstrate this Universal Law.
When anything achieves a point of climax, according to this Law, the backward swing begins almost imperceptibly until any forward movement has been nearly completely reversed.
At which point the forward movement resumes and the process is repeated.
Working With the Law of Rhythm
You must become conscious of the subtle start of the backward movement in any of your endeavors, whether it is to enhance your health, wealth, relationships, or any other goal you may set in motion, to work with rather than against the swing of the pendulum.
Do not be afraid or discouraged if you sense the Law pulling you back.
Instead, remember that you are one with the All-Powerful Absolute, for whom nothing is impossible, and keep your thoughts focused on your intended outcome, no matter how far back this transitory Law pulls you.
Even if your efforts fail, take heart in the fact that, because to this same Law, the upward movement must begin again.
Rising Above the Law of Rhythm
By avoiding the extremes, you might ascend beyond the Law of Rhythm in your inner world, and thus in your outward world, so that the pendulum has nothing to correct.
This does not imply that you should aim for mediocrity or that you should be unconcerned with anything or anyone.
Rather, it implies “to seek equilibrium,” because that is exactly what this Law is looking for.
When you’re experiencing mental extremes on both ends of the spectrum, such as fear, panic, over-excitement, or a sense of obsession or attachment, try to quiet your mind so that your thoughts, emotions, words, and actions don’t follow suit.
The swing to one side will be so calibrated in this manner that the swing to the other side will be invisible.
Extremes are subjective, and what is excessive for one person may not be so for another.
You can only tell if what you’re thinking, feeling, or doing is severe, and Pythagoras’ criterion is whether it’s hurting or harming you — your current or future self.
Law #6: The Law of Cause and Effect (Mutable)
The Law of Cause and Effect is the sixth of the 7 Universal Laws, and it states that “Every Cause Has Its Effect,” and “Every Effect Has Its Cause.”
Every effect you perceive in your outside or physical world has a very particular cause that has its beginning in your inner or mental world, according to this Law.
This is the essence of mental strength.
Your ideas, beliefs about yourself, others, and life, as well as your general mental state, put in motion specific causes that manifest as corresponding effects in the outside world over time.
Mastering Cause and Effect
Because everything in your 3D world is a mental creation — a projection of consciousness — you must control your thinking to master your fate.
There is no such thing as luck or chance, at least not in the way we think of them.
They are just phrases that humanity has coined in the absence of understanding of the Law of Cause and Effect.
The cause is your unseen inner world, and the impact is your visible 3D outside environment.
Allowing the frequency of your outer world to influence the frequency of your inner world is not a good idea.
Persist in your desired life’s ideas, feelings, assumptions, and imaginings, and the outside world will eventually catch up.
By Law, your outward world (effect) must mirror your inner world (cause) in accordance with the conscious creation process.
Your Ideas are Instantly Realized
All three planes of existence — the Spiritual, Mental, and Physical Planes — are subject to the Law of Cause and Effect.
On the Spiritual Plane, however, cause and effect are so quick that they appear to be inseparable.
Our perception of time and space on the other Planes causes a temporal lag between the cause and the eventual impact.
When you use creative visualization or other manifesting techniques to focus on your selected desires with intention, what you want to create in the Physical Plane is created instantly in the Spiritual Plane.
Because the Spiritual Plane’s greater vibrations mean it has directional authority over the lesser ones, your desired outcome will manifest in the 3D Physical Plane with endurance, practice, and sustained focussed visualization.
To put it another way, whatever is formed in the Spiritual Plane is projected in the Physical Plane throughout time, because the former directs the latter.
Law #7: The Law of Gender (Mutable)
The Law of Gender is the seventh and final Universal Law. “Gender is in everything,” it says, “and everything has Masculine and Feminine Principles.”
This changeable Universal Law can be seen in the opposite sexes or genders found not just in humans, but also in plants, electrons, and magnetic poles, to name a few examples.
Everything has a masculine and feminine side to it — the masculine is directive, while the feminine is creative, and the two must operate in harmony.
Your conscious mind, volition, and logic are the directive masculine aspects of the Mental Plane.
And your subconscious mind, your wants, and your emotions are the corresponding feminine creative elements.
Both genders are equally powerful and significant, and the two must work together to achieve their goals.
Your conscious and subconscious minds, as well as your will and desires, reasoning, and emotions, must all work together to achieve the same goal.
Within Masculine and Feminine Qualities
Everyone possesses both masculine and feminine characteristics.
Love, patience, intuition, and kindness are examples of feminine attributes, while energy, self-reliance, reasoning, and intellect are examples of male virtues.
Know that every woman possesses all of a man’s latent attributes, and every man possesses those of a woman.
You will understand what it is to be full when you understand this and enable your qualities to shine and operate in harmony with one another.
As a component of the equation, the Law of Attraction
It’s worth noting that the Law of Attraction isn’t listed among the 7 Universal Laws.
This isn’t to minimize its significance.
The Law of Attraction is one of the Universal Laws that goes through everything.
It may be said to be the glue that keeps everything together.
Credit for the 7 Universal Laws
This article is based on two incomparable sources of wisdom on the 7 Universal Laws.
First, there’s William Walker Atkinson’s key work on the Universal Laws, The Kybalion, published in 1908.
It’s a study of The Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece, based on Hermes Trismegistus’ teachings and penned by the Three Initiates, who we now know as the New Thought author.
Second, one of the most extensive publications on the subject is Baron Eugene Fersen’s The Science of Being, published in 1923.
With over 20 chapters on the subject, my own book, The Adventure of I, explores the 7 Universal Laws comprehensively with my views and understanding.
“The Principles of Truth are Seven; he who knows these, understandingly, possesses the Magic Key before whose touch all the Doors of the Temple fly open” — The Kybalion
Putting it all together in a nutshell
In a nutshell, there are seven Universal Laws or Principles that regulate everything in the Universe.
The three Immutable (unchanging) Higher Laws are Mentalism, Correspondence, and Vibration, and the four Mutable (transitory) Lower Laws are Polarity, Rhythm, Cause and Effect, and Gender.
“The Universe exists by virtue of these Laws, which form its framework and hold it together,” the Kybalion says.
You can use your understanding of the Higher Laws to master and transcend the Lower Laws once you’ve learned these Universal Laws.
This is essential for gaining control over your inner thought world so that you can consciously construct your desired reality and mastery.
In every sense, learning the 7 Universal Laws leads to mastering your life.
